Gary was born in Belfast,
Northern Ireland and grew up in a town called Dungannon
throughout the troubles in the 70's and 80's. He is
the eldest of seven siblings, two girls & five boys.
It was during these days that the first dreams of being
a property developer were born, as he recognised opportunities
of building, renovating & essentially improving
his environment. He always wanted to work in property
and chose the corporate route to lay the foundations
for this ambition. He obtained a 2:1 honours degree
in Estate Management and a Post Graduate Diploma in
Accountancy (with commendation) from the University
of Ulster and thereafter qualified as a Chartered Surveyor.
During the 1990’s property crash he worked as
a Management Accountant for a year in 1992 and then
as a Property Manager for Cable and Wireless, moving
to London to take on a senior UK Management role (1993
- 1998). He eventually moved to US telecoms giant MCI
and became their International Estate's Manager (1998
- 2000) before he took his final step to another American
company The Carlyle Group as their European Sales Director
(2000 - 2002).
After around ten years on the corporate ladder, buying
& selling literally hundreds of properties across
the world, it was time to fulfill his own ambition;
Gary started a property development company, The Richland
Group in 2002. He established himself as
a successful property developer within a relatively
short period of time and new developments are on-going,
and the company's profile and success continues to grow.
Whilst growing his property company Gary, along with
his brother, founded and opened 'The Kingly Club' in
Soho, London. An exclusive members bar which has been
voted 'Bar of the Year 2004, 2005 and 2006' at the London
Bar & Club awards hosted and televised at the Park
Lane Hilton Hotel.
Approached by Channel five in 2004, Gary is presenter
on five's property show 'How to be a Property Developer'.
The shows popularity has led to Gary filming a second
and third series. He has also completed two further
series for five 'Property Developing Abroad' and 'Interior
Rivalry' with Anne Maurice the House Doctor and Duncan
Bannatynne from Dragons Den. More recently he has filmed
the slightly controversial ‘Axe the Agent?’
(20 x 1 hour shows) for BBC 1 and is currently working
with the Discovery Channel on a new series entitled
‘House Wreck Rescue’ (10 x 1 hour shows)
which will be shown world wide 2009/2010.
Recently Gary has just launched www.rovster.com
which he considers his most ambitious project so far.
